Spring 2015 Updates

Dear Los Amigos Members,
Just a few short months into 2015 and we have had some great events that members of our club have participated in.  One of them was the horse expo in Pomona the first weekend of February.  Los Amigos co-sponsored a booth there to promote the Peruvian horse breed and our club.  Thanks to all the members who volunteered that weekend.

Our members have been out and about at several parades and open horse shows.  Please make sure to let our newsletter editor Debbie Pye know about any activities you have participated in so she can feature them in the newsletter! The next newsletter is scheduled to be released online April 20th, so get her information soon! Our club newsletter is released online 4 times annually in digital format.  You can see past issues here:

Members of the club will also be exhibiting our breed at theChatsworth Day of the horse April 12th.  Just another great venue to promote the Peruvian horse!

We are continuing to do updates to the new website.  One benefit we brought to the members last year was the ability to pay for membership fees, sponsorships and show fees with credit cards.  We have a (simple) store set up on our website to renew your membership online.  Make sure to renew before the show, as you will receive a discount on ALL fees! Click here to renew online if you haven't already renewed your membership!

The board of directors has been excited to move the show to theVentura fairgrounds this year in 2015.  Many members had expressed a concern over the heat in Santa Barbara in July, and also the costs of the hotel rooms being difficult at all times of year in Santa Barbara.  Because of that our BOD members, Andres Salinas and Vanita Mann investigated the Ventura fairgrounds as an option for 2015.  Ventura is directly on the beach, resulting in much cooler temperatures during the day, and also has more hotel rooms available at more reasonable rates.  The fairgrounds are under new management, and have had many new upgrades done since the last SCPPHC show held there 6+ years ago. As an added bonus, the Ventura location is a bit easier access for our Northern California owners who have limited show options available. We are exploring other options for 2016 and beyond.  If you have any ideas for locations, please let us know.

The arena has since been refurbished and new arena footing installed.  I was fortunate to see this arena in use last September during the Fair and was quite impressed with the nice footing.  Andres Salinas and I also visited this facility 2 months ago to see for ourselves how the fairgrounds were looking. In the past we have heard the complaints that there was unsafe footing in the arena and around the facility due to rocks, which has caused problems for some of our horses.  While no facility is free from rocks or debris, we did not see any problems that would have raised a flag since these upgrades have been done in recent years.  We have everybody’s interest at heart in making sure this facility is as safe as possible.  There are over 110 stalls available for our use, so plenty of room for all exhibitors.  Plus we are able to offer better hotel rates at our host hotels.  Please see the link to the premiumfor all the information on the show.  If you have any concerns, please contact one of our BOD members to resolve your concerns.

Our show staff is going to do everything possible to ensure the grounds are in safe and very satisfactory conditions and will inspect the facility a few weeks before the show and also right before show to remedy any problems if needed.  Your horses are a first priority to us and we will do whatever we can to ensure safety among them. The new management has had many horse shows there in the last year with no issues with the grounds or arena footing and are committed to guaranteeing us a great show!

We have included a quick survey to get your response on the show. Please take a second to fill it out so we can hear from our membership.

Thank you,
Vanita Mann
